CULTURAL JEEPNEY DRIVER

Job Title:  Cultural Jeepney Driver      

Department: Community Voice

Reports to:  Cultural Program Director                  

Effective Date: As soon as filled

Location: Historic Filipino Town, Los Angeles

Job type: Independent consultant and part-time

Schedule: Primarily weekends; some weekdays possible, schedule based on bookings. Engagements are coordinated in advance based on tour and event needs. 

Compensation: $25/hour                                 

Supervises:  None 

Job Summary:

The Cultural Jeepney Driver is an integral part of the popular PWC Historic Filipino (HiFi) Town guided tours and community events. The Cultural Jeepney Driver is dependable, safety-focused, and culturally respectful, while playing an important role in showcasing Filipino heritage while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all passengers. This role is more than driving—it’s about helping bring Filipino history and culture to life in Los Angeles. You will be part of a project that supports cultural awareness, community pride, and meaningful local tourism.


Key Responsibilities:

The Cultural Jeepney Driver will be responsible for the professional operation and care of the PWC jeepney, including but not limited to:

  • Operating the manual (stick-shift) PWC jeepney safely and professionally according to routes and schedules coordinated in advance by PWC

  • Transporting guests during guided tours, cultural events, and special community activities

  • Performing basic pre-drive inspections (fuel, oil, tires, lights, brakes, cleanliness) before each assignment

  • Facilitating and coordinating fuel refills before or during scheduled use

  • Monitoring the jeepney’s overall physical condition during operations and promptly reporting any mechanical or safety issues

  • Maintaining the jeepney in a clean, presentable, and culturally respectful condition

  • Ensuring the jeepney’s safe return to designated PWC premises after every assignment

  • Coordinating professionally with PWC staff, consultants, tour guides, and event organizers

  • Supporting a positive guest experience through courteous, patient, and respectful conduct


Required Qualifications:

  • Valid California driver’s license (must be current)

  • Good driving record (no major violations; verification may be required)

  • Proven ability to drive manual transmission vehicles, preferably jeepneys or similar specialty vehicles

  • Willing and available to work weekends and occasional holidays

  • Demonstrated good moral character, professionalism, and reliability

  • Comfortable driving in urban traffic, community streets, and event environments

  • Ability to follow safety protocols, schedules, and instructions

  • Punctual, calm under pressure, and guest-service oriented


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience driving tour vehicles, shuttles, or specialty vehicles

  • Familiarity with Historic Filipinotown or Los Angeles tourist routes

  • Interest in Filipino culture, heritage, or community engagement

  • Basic mechanical awareness (not repair work, but awareness of vehicle condition)


Important Expectations:

  • Safety is the highest priority at all times

  • Zero tolerance for impaired, reckless, or distracted driving

  • Professional appearance and respectful interaction with guests and community members

  • Must be able to follow set routes, timelines, and event procedures

  • Consultant may be required to sign a service agreement, liability waiver, and confidentiality terms
