- Serve the Association of Filipino Workers
The Association of Filipino Workers was founded on September 15, 2000
on the premise that Filipinos in the Los Angeles found the need to unite
to address their problems and to have a voice in the community. AFW
is a membership-based entity that holds its meetings every last Friday
of every month at PWC. The staff and volunteers of PWC serve the needs
of the AFW whether it be immigration problems, health problems, or employment
needs. By addressing the basic needs or major problems of the AFW, our
fellow Filipinos can live in dignity.
- Free individual case management
On-site handling of cases that fall under the following catagories:
Immigration Dependent on the case, PWC can assist
in various immigration problems. Services range from a change of immigration
status to acquiring a student visa. PWC has an extensive referral system
to pro-bono or low-cost and reliable attorneys.
Employment PWC assisted clients in winning up to $16,000
in backwage claims. PWC may assist in filing claims against employers
who have not paid proper wages; can inform you on your rights as an
employee (documented or undocumented) if active as an AFW member; and
can refer you to job openings.
Health PWC can direct you to free and low-cost health
centers; provide education on your health rights (documented or undocumented),
especially misconceptions of undocumented rights healthcared.
Housing PWC has a network of apartments that can direct
you to low-cost rent; can inform you of your rights as a tenant, and
provide you with steps on how to file complaints if you believe your
rights as a tenant have been violated.
Internet Access PWC now has high-speed DSL that is open for use and is free for AFW members.
